Using Adobe Premiere Pro CS6

Using Adobe Premiere Pro CS6

While editing the preliminary task I found it hard to use the editing program and had to spend a lot of my time looking at videos on youtube, trying to figure out how to use the adobe premiere pro cs6....Which to be honest I have never used in my entire life and I was finding it every difficult.

After watching like 10 different videos on youtube, trying to understand how to use the program....to no surprise I was still finding it hard to use the program and the youtube didn't help at all. Then I remembered that my mum had a friend that knows how to use these program so I asked him if he could teach me how to use it. He taught me how to used the program in a way that was easy for me and he also gave me a few tips to use for my editing...I was so thankful that I had him to teach me how to used Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 and I was now ready to start editing the task.

Troubles while filming

Troubles while filming

While filming our preliminary task my partner and I came across a few problems. As we look around the class we saw that most people were doing an interrogation scene, for their preliminary task so we had to change our whole script.

We then chose to just go with the flow and let our actors do what they wanted to. which end up turning into a positive thing and it turned out better than I thought.

After I done filming and was looking at the record scene I then realized that I was missing one of the camera angles which got me pretty annoyed, and it was now to late to go back and film it again as I had to get this task over and done with so I could start working on the main task which was more important.

Film Analysis - The Woman In Black

Film Analysis - The Woman In Black

Here's the opening to a horror film with Daniel Radcliff. Here's a summary of the plot:

In London, lawyer Arthur Kipps still grieves the death of his beloved wife Stella on the delivery of their son Joseph four years ago. His employer gives him a last chance to keep his job, and he is assigned to travel to the remote village of Cryphin Gifford to examine the documentation of the Eel Marsh House that belonged to the recently deceased Mrs. Drablow. Arthur befriends Daily on the train and the man offers a ride to him to the Gifford Arms inn. Arthur has a cold reception and the owner of the inn tells that he did not receive the request of reservation and there is no available room. The next morning, Arthur meets solicitor Jerome who advises him to return to London. However, Arthur goes to the isolated manor and soon he finds that Eel Marsh House is haunted by the vengeful ghost of a woman dressed in black. He also learns that the woman lost her son drowned in the marsh and she seeks revenge, taking the children of the scared locals.

The film starts with a close up of a tea set, which is give a sense that little girls are playing with as they fake pouring tea. We then see another close up of the little girl give tea to her doll and that repeats it one more time and then it changes to a long shot of 3 little girls have a tea party with their dolls. We then see a few extreme close ups of the girls playing with their dolls. We  see a two shot with the 2 little girls smile, this is giving the audience the sense that everything is good and everyone is happy. After that we see a wide shot of the 3 little girls looking at something, This gets the viewers thinking of what could the little girls be looking at, building up tension.  Now there were a few more close up shot showing the girls getting up and walking to the window with a blank stare. We see another wide shot of the girls in front of the window with a close up of one of the girls opening the window handle.

Film Analysis - Sucker Punch

Here's the opening to Sucker Punch.

An action fantasy set in the vivid imagination of a young girl whose dream world provides the ultimate escape from her darker reality. Unrestrained by the boundaries of time and place, she is free to go where her mind takes her, and her incredible adventures blur the lines between what's real and what is imaginary. She has been locked away against her will, but Babydoll has not lost her will to survive. Determined to fight for her freedom, she urges four other young girls -- the outspoken Rocket, the street-smart Blondie, the fiercely loyal Amber and the reluctant Sweet Pea -- to band together and try to escape their terrible fate at the hands of their captors, Blue, Madam Gorski and the High Roller. Led by Babydoll, the girls engage in fantastical warfare against everything from samurais to serpents, with a virtual arsenal at their disposal. Together, they must decide what they are willing to sacrifice in order to stay alive. But with the help of a Wise Man, their unbelievable journey -- if they succeed -- will set them free.

The starts with a long shot of a stage showing the audience where the start of the film is set. We then see a close up of a girl sitting on the bed. For a bit we see a few wide and long shot so that the views can see clearly what happening in the scene. We then see a low shot showing that the guy that's putting the soil in, has all the power. After that scene we see a few close up shots this was done so it builds tension as his opening the envelope. we now start seeing medium shots and wide shot as the action starts building up. We also see a few extreme close up shots to keep building the tension and to get the audience wanting more.

Film Analysis - Breakfast at Tiffany's

Film Analysis - Breakfast at Tiffany's

Here's the opening to Breakfast at Tiffany's, most people will know know about this film as it's a classic, but here's a summary of the plot for some people that might not know about this film.

In an idealized New York City during the early '60s, Holly Golightly is a charming socialite with a youthful zest for life who lives alone in a nearly bare apartment. She has such a flippant lifestyle that she won't even give her cat a name, because that would be too much of a commitment to a relationship. Maintaining a childlike innocence yet wearing the most perfect of designer clothes and accessories from Givenchy, she spends her time on expensive dates and at high-class parties. She escorts various wealthy men, yet fails to return their affections after they have given her gifts and money. Holly's carefree independence is changed when she meets her neighbor, aspiring writer Paul , who is suffering from writer's block while being kept by a wealthy woman. Just when Holly and Paul are developing their sweet romance, Doc appears on the scene and complicates matters, revealing the truth about Holly's past.

The film starts with a long shot showing New York, letting the audience know where the film is set, We then is a wide shot showing a Holly getting out of a taxi, we then see a low angle making the Tiffany building making it important and the we see  her walking to a shop window showing that there might be something important there. We then see a medium shot showing her looking at the window taking out her breakfast. We also see another wide shot showing Holly walking down the road by herself.

Film Analysis - Step Up Revaluation

Film Analysis - Step Up Revaluation

Here's the opening to Step Up Revaluation. People that like dance films will know about all of the Step Up film but here a little bit about the film.

This film is set in Miami. Sean and his friend Eddie lead a flash mob who call themselves The Mob and they have flash mobs all over the city so that they could win an online contest. They also work at a luxury hotel. Sean meets a girl named Emily who is the daughter of the owner of the hotel, who aspires to be a dancer which her father doesn't support and they hit it off. Eventually Emily joins The Mob and finds out that her wealthy business father threatens to develop The Mob's historic neighborhood and displace thousands-of people, Emily must work together with Sean and The Mob to turn their performance art into protest art, and risk losing their dreams to fight for a greater cause.

Now to analyzing...

The film starts with and aerial view of the city where the film is set which is Miami, this is give the audience a sense of where the film is set. After the aerial view the director uses a long shot showing the audience what's going on the streets of Miami and giving the audience a sense of how busy the streets are. We then see a close up of a woman's legs this is getting the audience  thinking about 'who is this woman and what is she doing there'. We then see another close up of a man's face and a camera, getting the audience thinking what is he recording. After that we only see that the director has used long shots so we can see the dance.

Film Analysis - James Bond Quantum of Solace

Film Analysis - James Bond Quantum of Solace

Here's the opening to James Bond film Quantum of Solace. Everyone knows about all the James Bond movies so I am not going to bother explain what the film is about... so lets get to analyzing the film.

The film starts with an aerial view, This is establishing where the opening of the film is set and it will let the audience know where they are.
After the aerial view there are several of extreme close up of the cars and then it goes to a establishing shot so that the audience know where the cars are driving. Then there is aerial view and then other close up of the cars. Throughout most of the opening of the film there are a lot of aerial view, extreme close ups and close up shot, however getting to the end of the opening you see a lot of long and wide shots so that the audience can see the action.

Learning camera angles

Learning camera angles

Today in class we were learning about different camera angles and what effects they have. Here are some of the camera angles we learned:

Aerial Shot - This camera shot is taken from an overhead position, this is often used as an establishing shot. Here is an example of an aerial shot.

Close up - This shot is a head and shoulder shot which is often used to show expressions/ emotions of a character. This can also be a shot of an object, so that it will reveal detail. I didn't find any examples on youtube.

Extreme Close up - This shot is where a part of a face or body of a character which fills the whole frame, which will dominate the frame. Here's an example of a extreme close up.

Point-of-veiw shot (POV) - This shot shows the view from the character's perspective. This shot is usually edited so that the viewers are aware of who's point of view it is.

Over the Shoulder shot -  This shot is looking over the subject's shoulder.

After knowing some of the camera angles, we were then instructed to select 5 different film openings and analyse them. We were told to identify the different camera angles and their effects towards the audience.

Here is an over view of the different camera angles:

Script for Preliminary task

Script for Preliminary task

here is the script that me and my partner Gloria came up with. We decided to do a detective type of film and we came up with this script.

Script
Person 2: What happened? Why did you kill her?
Person 1: I don’t know what happened.
Person 2: You’re a killer!
Person 1: I didn't kill her, I loved her.
Person 2: You killed her. (bangs hand on the table)
Person 1: I LOVED HER! (shouts)
Person 2: If you loved her then why did you kill her?
Person 1: I told you I didn’t kill her.....

we liked this script because it dark and mysterious. We also picked this script because it will leave the audience wanting to know what happens next, what's going to happen to him? Did he kill her are not?
These are the type of effects that we are trying to put forward to the audience as we want to get their attention and make them want to keep watching.

Preliminary task plan

Planning for Preliminary task

We now have started to plan for our preliminary task. we started figuring out a script first before everything, we then came up with a script that was mysterious and a detective type of film genre  and we liked it so we stuck with it.
I will be posting the script after this.

We then started thinking about the cast and how will be the best at playing the role, we also decided to cast people from our class because it would be easier as we could film during our media lesson.

Our main focus for the cast would be only males, so we started looking at the boys in our class and seeing who would suit the roles. And this is a list of the boys that would be perfect for our task:

> Martin
> Mack
> Harron
> Tristian
> Ramone
> John

We now have to pick between the chosen cast, and we decided to pick Martin and Mack.

Now we went on to picking a location, and thinking about the lighting and the camera angles we had to include.

Third Plan

Third Plan

After looking at each plot and thinking about everything we would need for each film, what problems could arise while filming, what props we would need, what type of cast we will need and what issues we will have while editing.

And our final decision was to go a head and go with a horror as my partner and I wanted a challenge and the romance film wasn't a big challenge.

We could now start to plan our main task.

Second Plan

Second day of planning

After a very long day of trying to picking between Romance and Horror, Which are two completely different  types of genre. We where still finding it hard to pick between both genres,

Decision, Decision Romance or Horror???  YIKES

So we came up with a plot for both genres and we would pick which one we prefer the best and here are the plots:

Romance:

> New girl in school
> Quite girl gets bullied by the popular girl
> Has a crush on the most popular girl's boyfriend
> Becomes crush's class project partner
> They started hanging out
> She starts falling in love with him but is trying not to show it to him
> He secretly is falling for her too
> Girlfriend starts getting jealous and starts getting at the quite girl
> Guy breaks up with popular girlfriend because he doesn't like the fact his is bullying the girl he likes
> He asks her out on a date and they start going out
> Ex girlfriend doesn't like what she sees and get revenge
> The popular makes it look like her ex boyfriend is cheating on his new girl
> The quite girl sees and gets hurt and breaks up with him
> In the end she finds out it was all a set up and he tells her exactly how he feels about her, they get back together and happy ending.

We liked this plot as us girls can relate to it as some teen girls will know how it feels but never have happy endings. This would also be a great film to shot as it more of a teenager romance film and that will be the audience we will be targeting as teen girls would be able to relate to it more than other romance out there.

Horror:

> After being sexually and physically abused by her father for almost 10 years at from the age of 5 to 14. Her mother got tired of her daughter being abused, so she gets her and leaves.
>After 3 months of leaving her abusive husbands, she starts see that her daughter is acting different
> She notice that her daughter was losing sense of time and forgetting things she has done, but also her mother notice that her daughter has different personalities
> Thinking that it's just something to help her get over her father's abusive acts, she just ignores it
> But while her mother just thinks it something that will past within time, but what he mother doesn't know is  that her daughter is showing signs of Multiple Personality Disorder
> But the girl's alters started growing day by day expected one. One who grow quicker and  more rapidly then the others, this was also her most powerful personality
> After 8 month her mother soon started realizing that there was something wrong with her daughter
> And takes her to the hospital to see what was wrong with daughter
> While they wait for the results to come in
> As they are waiting her daughter's disorder started become worst each day and now she was  Hallucinating and starts having alteration in her perceptions
> After the doctors were aware of her disorder, they started treatment right away
> But treatment are not working and the daughter starting going mental
> And is then send to a mental hospital
> In which her alters get more powerful and where switching more often
> Leading her to self-injury and attempts in suicide
> But her most powerful personality took complete control of her drive her mental
> At ending finding out the her most powerful personality had no part of her

We also liked this plot as there would be a lot of tension and a lot of bits the will get the audience thinking whats going to happen next. We also liked this because would be able to take the audience into the main characters head put them in her shoes.

First Plan

First Plan

So today we had to pick who we wanted to work with and I picked to work with Gloria. After we picked our partners, our teacher told us what we had to do for our chosen portfolio and our one was film.
So after knowing what we had to do for our projects we then went off in our groups and we started planning.

So while with my partner we decided to start of by planning our Preliminary task first so we could get it done and over with as it a short task and for us to some understanding of the different camera angles.

We then started thinking on what type of genre we would like to make our preliminary about, we also started thinking about the script, location, lighting, the cast and when we will film it.

After figuring what we wanted to do for our preliminary task, we started thinking about our main task. Here are the main film genre we decided we would be more likely to film:

Brainstorming favorite film genre

After 10 mins of looking at our brainstorm of film genres thinking about which one would like to film and thinking of a plot for each one, we had a tie between Romance and Horror.
